Variation Licence Application – Update Your Operator’s Licence

Once your Operator’s Licence (O-Licence) has been granted, you may need to make changes as your business grows or circumstances change. To do this, you must submit a Variation Application to the Traffic Commissioner.

A Variation Application allows you to update or amend your existing licence, for example:

  • Increasing or reducing the number of vehicles you’re authorised to operate

  • Adding or removing an operating centre

  • Changing the type of licence (e.g. from Restricted to Standard)

  • Updating the licence conditions or undertakings

  • Replacing or adding a Transport Manager

Making these changes correctly is essential. Errors or incomplete applications can cause delays, objections, or even compliance action if the Traffic Commissioner believes your business is not managing its licence properly.
